This keynote lecture aimed to stimulate discussion of the overlapping professional interests of archivists and historians. It used examples from our archival research into the history of girls’ education to consider the importance of the individual school to wider histories of education and of women’s lives. It also considered how the duties of historians overlap with those of school archivists and it raised some questions related to the location of the archive, digitisation, access, ephemera, and to how relationships between historians and school archivists could be enriched through enhanced lines of communication
